Fernando Alonso drives Nissan GT-R during Bahrain F1 GP 2009
Well, it worked with us. Till a certain extend.
Or maybe it was Fernando Alonso who was sick of driving all these boring Renault Meganes and Renault Clio at the previous F1 and Renault events? Well, we will need to ask him at the next F1 race.
The official Nissan PR release furthermore continued that Alonso parks up the Nissan GT-R super car he and fellow driver Nelsinho Piquet used over the weekend of the Gulf Air Bahrain F1 Grand Prix, and that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Renault-Nissan alliance – which (according to the official press release) is one of the most successful alliances in the automotive industry operating in over 100 markets around the globe.’
Well, this alliance might be successful in some countries like France, Germany and Israel. But it is surely not a successful one in the Middle East, and especially not in Egypt.
In Egypt we recommend Nissan to stay away from the Renault brand as much as possible, since the the French car manufacturer and their importer EIM Group, which is owned by business-man Mohamed Nosseir, have a very bad reputation while the Japanese brand Nissan is very well-respected and appreciated by the public and customers.

Ahmed Dino from Dubai - UAE wrote:Exactly 2 years ago in Bahrain, and during the UN road safety week, held under the slogan 'Think! Before you drive!', Fernando Alonso said: "For me it is very important to support this campaign, and make safety
in our cars the first priority in everyday life.I think we need to improve safety and we need to improve roads, make the roads safe and I think we can do this if everyone works in the same direction."
And the best promotion for this is by driving a powerful Nissan GT-R with flip-flops?
As a matter of fact, it is very well known that driving in loose-fitting summer footwear is dangerous because the sole can easily get caught under the brake, clutch or accelerator pedal. And the lack of a heel
on a flip-flop can lead to it coming off during gear changes.
I can imagine that with all the electronic and safety gadgets available in the GT-R it is very easy to drive it, but still I think that it is completely irresponsible to emphasis this easiness by the flip-flop driving pose of the Renault F1 Team driver.
This reminds me with another Renault F1 incident a few days ago in Dubai. On the occasion of Renault's 'roadshow' event in Dubai, the UAE's Automobile Club President and FIA Vice President for Sport Mohammed bin Sulayem, who also happens to be 14-time Middle East Rally champion, shunted last year's R28 F1 car on a straight line !!! Seems like Mohamed bin Sulayem was also wearing flip-flops ;-)
